What is the role of electrolytic molten alumina added to cryolite? Cryolite plays a role in reducing the melting point of alumina in the process of electrolytic alumina preparation. The melting point of alumina is very high. Adding cryolite can reduce the temperature required for alumina melting and reduce energy consumption. Reduce the temperature required for electrolytic alumina without cryolite temperature is more than 2000 degrees plus as long as more than 1000 degrees, just cryolite melting point is 1009 degrees Celsius, so electrolytic molten alumina to add cryolite is more suitable.
1. As a general rule, the melting point of the mixture is reduced, almost without considering the type of substance.
2. The melting point of cryolite itself is very low, because it can be clearly seen from the composition of Na3[AlF6] that its lattice energy is very low; When it melts, it's a flux.
3. The principle is similar to water lowering the melting point of NaCl (the freezing point of an aqueous solution is low), which can be compared if you think about it. The dissolution behavior of alumina in molten cryolite was studied by using a transparent quartz bath. The whole dissolution process was observed and photographed by a camera. The influencing factors of dissolution were analyzed and discussed. It is believed that the dissolution of alumina in molten cryolite is divided into two steps, that is, the rapid dissolution of alumina and the shedding and dissolution of alumina formed on the electrolyte surface. The rapid and slow dissolution of alumina in molten cryolite is due to the fact that the addition of alumina causes the electrolyte temperature to decrease, and the formation of alumina/electrolyte agglomeration on the electrolyte surface reduces the surface area of alumina in contact with cryolite. The dissolution rate of alumina is related to the stirring speed, the preheating temperature of alumina, the temperature of the system and the type of alumina.
The characteristics of sand cryolite are:
1, low melting point, fast melting speed, can shorten the time to enter the normal working state.
2, the molecular ratio can be adjusted in a large range, can adapt to the different requirements of cryolite molecular ratio in different periods of the electrolyzer.
3, low water content, small fluorine loss.
4, granular, good fluidity, conducive to transportation.
5, easy access to raw materials, low production costs.
Second, the characteristics of granular cryolite are:
1, good mobility, dust pollution, suitable for mechanized blanking.
2, electrolytic production in the high yield, can reduce the cost of electrolytic aluminum.
3, molecular ratio between 2.5~3.0, especially suitable for electrolytic aluminum tank.
4, the particles are mostly 1~10mm.
Third, the characteristics of powdered cryolite are:
1, can reach a higher particle size, usually more than 200 mesh.
2, the molecular ratio can reach 1.75~2.5, with good adjustability.
3, ultra-fine products, 325 mesh pass rate of more than 98%, can meet the special industry requirements for cryolite.
